Job Description

You will contribute to the new EUMETSAT’s programmes under development and maintenance and evolutions of online Ground Segment elements specifically for level 0, level 1, and level 2 near real-time data processing.

For this position, you will have to support the following tasks:

  • Defining, designing, implementing, and integrating architectures or elements of architectures for data processing ground segments and their components
  • Maintaining and evolving existing operational data processing ground segment applications or application components, especially for those under configuration control
  • Providing expert advice to the procurement and installation of software, and the co-ordination of software releases with external providers of support services
  • Generating formal project documentation
  • Participating in meetings and formal reviews

Required qualifications and experience

  • Fluency in English
  • A university degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering / science discipline
  • Excellent technical writing skills, in particular in the area of formal technical documentation, e.g. requirements, design documentation, test procedures, maintenance procedures
  • Qualification and Production Phase with preparation of Integration, E2E SW and Acceptance Test Readiness/Results Reviews data packages
  • Feasibility and requirements definition/consolidation phase with participation in Requirement Reviews and/or Design Reviews
  • Engineering activities for IV&V campaigns, including:
    • Definition of VCDs, IV&V plans and test specifications and procedures
    • Coordination or follow up of integration activities
    • Coordination or follow up of verification activities
    • Contribution to validation activities
  • Operating and maintaining software systems in Linux, AIX and Solaris
  • Software testing, unit test suite maintenance, automated testing, verification and validation
  • Excellent communication, presentation and team working skills
  • Capability to be independent and to adapt to a rapidly changing, often stressful environment
  • Git, Gitlab and SVN

Desirable qualifications and experience

  • Requirements management using DOORS
  • Change management processes
  • Operational Earth Observation science data processing
  • Knowledge of relevant standards, quality assurance and configuration management principles and applications
  • C/C++ programming language
  • Scripting languages (e.g. bash, shell, Perl)
  • High-level programming languages (e.g. Python, Java)
  • Use of application programming of database systems
  • Software debugging, memory analysis and profiling
  • Software building and packaging; specifically make, CMake and RPM
  • Data Analytics for satellite Earth Observation product data

 

Work Location

Darmstadt, Germany

We follow a hybrid scheme, which means you are expected to work two days per week in the office in Darmstadt (or more if you like), and on the remaining days you can work from home.
