We are looking for a Data Processing Engineer for our client, EUMETSAT. You will provide support to the Data Processing Systems and Applications Competence Area to contribute to the specification, preliminary design, procurement, integration, testing and transfer to operations of Data Processing elements for future programmes under development and to contribute to anomaly resolution, design changes related to evolutions, follow-up implementation and testing for those programs under operations. Ground Segment data processing elements cover the complete data processing chain for all mission instruments, from processing of raw data received from the satellites to generation of Level 1 and Level 2 products via dedicated instrument data processors and their distribution to other Ground Segment elements for archiving and dissemination. This also includes the processing infrastructure required for hosting, coordinating, monitoring and controlling the Level 1 and Level 2 instrument data processors. Your tasks will include, but not be limited to:

  • Requirements engineering in DOORS for data processing requirements. This includes review, specification and refinement of existing requirements, their up-traces to parent Ground Segment specifications, justifications and verification methods
  • Ensure coherency of requirements with algorithms specifications
  • Support the procurement of data processing elements by advising on technical solutions proposed and by reviewing documentation to confirm its compliance with the requirements
  • Support the testing of individual data processing elements and integration into the data processing systems
  • Support to maintenance activities, including the proposal and implementation of system alterations, or component modification to achieve required performance
  • Definition of:
    • ICDs between data processing elements and other GS functions
    • testing and Operational scenarios for data processing elements
    • data processing concepts and trade-offs to support requirements understanding and justification
  • Contribution to:
    • management of the requirements baseline for data processing elements
    • refinement of ICDs
    • testing, integration and acceptance of data processing elements
    • formal reviews and technical meetings
    • anomaly investigation
    • preparation of TNs and supporting material for the presentation of system evolutions in the corresponding boards

Required Skills and Experience

  • University degree (or equivalent, including experience) in the engineering, physics, or software (or similar) domains
  • Relevant experience in engineering of Data Processing systems, following well established processes, covering the full development lifecycle and relevant technical standards
  • Relevant experience in preparation of requirements, design, interfaces and testing documentation for data processing systems considering the systems engineering aspects of data processing management and data provision
  • Relevant experience in monitoring and implementation of designs against baselines and IV&V, testing and formal acceptance
  • The ability to maintain a system overview is essential. This ability must be exercised within a multi-disciplinary context in cooperation with other teams, covering several different data processing levels and instruments
  • Ability to learn and develop the needed skills and knowledge to contribute to the development of data processing systems. This includes the ability to rapidly absorb, and make use of, information presented in written and oral communications in a dynamic context
  • Systematic approach to work, be able to plan the work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks
  • Ability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation

Desirable Skills and Experience

Practical knowledge of the following will be a distinct advantage:

  • IBM DOORS tool or an equivalent for requirements management
