Job Description

We are looking for a Software Engineer passionate about Python to join our Engineering Division in Germany. This position has a strong focus on distributed systems and data processing requiring good understanding of Python backend architectures, patterns and frameworks (preferably with Django). This is foreseen as a full-time position, but part-time applications will be considered. We welcome applications from all engineers. While seniority is appreciated, we welcome junior engineers too. 

Your mission

As a Python Software Engineer you will contribute with your engineering and coding skills to the development and continuous improvement of technologies and reference production-ready solutions to support spacecraft operations during critical phases. More concretely, you will be designing and implementing solutions to improve the storage, processing and dissemination of spacecraft telemetry on systems used by various European space missions and programmes. Moreover, you will be invited to push the boundaries and identify new opportunities to scale up the existing capabilities and provide end-users with more performing and efficient ways to analyse telemetry in support of critical decision making.

You will be involved in all phases of the software development lifecycle and work closely with other members of the Engineering Division in Germany, Italy and Switzerland.

Required Skills and Experience

• Bachelor or Master in Computer Science or similar, preferably with a focus on software engineering
• Pro-active attitude with initiative and interest in challenging solutions
• Excellent communication skills in an international environment
• Fluency in English, both spoken and written particularly in technical documentation
• Knowledge and practical experience in the following technologies is required:
  • Python 3
  • Experience with pip, pytest, venv
  • Developing in Linux/Unix environments
  • Docker and Docker-Compose
  • RESTful Services

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Continuous integration environments and source control management systems and their respective tools, e.g. GitLab and SonarQube
• Django framework
• SQL Databases (PostgreSQL and/or MariaDB)
• Test Driven Development
• Relevant Network Protocols (TCP, HTTP, DNS…)
• Contribution to Open Source Projects
• C++ and/or Rust

Work Location

Darmstadt, Germany and/or in home office with regular meetings in Darmstadt
