Are you a software engineer passionate about both frontend and backend technologies?

Are you fluent in Java and are at least familiar with containers and their orchestration?

Have you developed web applications?

If you have answered with a “Yes!” to at least two of the questions above, this is very likely a position for you, and we would love to get to know more about you.

The projects you would work on are mainly related to the Space Weather (SWE) domain of the European Space Agency (ESA)'s Space Safety Programme. You will be involved in building and maintaining systems that ingest and process radiation measurements from instruments on various spacecraft and are provisioned to the ESA SWE Network. In your role you will support the constant evolution of the domain’s DevOps processes as well. We use Spring, Angular, Docker Swarm and Kubernetes.

This is foreseen as a full-time position (80-100%), but part-time applications will be considered. We welcome applications from experienced engineers, as well as junior engineers.

Required Skills and Experience

• Bachelors or Masters in Computer Sciences or similar, preferably with a focus on software engineering
• Pro-active attitude with initiative and interest in challenging solutions
• Excellent communication skills in an international environment
• Fluency in English, both spoken and written particularly in technical documentation
• Knowledge and practical experience in the following technologies is required:
  • Java 11+ with Maven and/or Gradle
  • JavaScript, preferably also TypeScript
  • HTML5, CSS3
  • RESTful Services including JSON and XML
• Relevant Network Protocols (TCP, HTTP, DNS…)
  • Developing in Linux/Unix environments
• Familiarity with containers and their orchestration (Docker, Docker Swarm and/or Kubernetes)

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Knowledge about the space weather environment
• Knowledge about spacecraft operations
• Spring (Boot, Framework, Data, and Security) applied to Web applications
• Angular, and related tools (NPM, webpack…)
• User interface/experience design
• SQL Databases (PostgreSQL and/or MariaDB)
• Continuous integration environments and source control management systems and their respective tools, e.g. GitLab and SonarQube

Work Location: Darmstadt, Germany

We offer flexibility with home office, with regular meetings in Darmstadt
