System and Software Engineer (19-11-057)

Job Description

We are looking for a System and Software Engineer for our client ESTEC. As part of the System team in the projects office, you will support Avionics and space electronics procurements from early definition phase through to qualification phase. You will maintain interfaces with the relevant contractors and subsystems responsible (industry/research institute) for the assigned projects as well as with the specific support at ESA (PA, EEE Parts expert,etc.). You will support system reviews of the assigned projects as required and follow up technical issues arising on the assigned projects and participate in risk reduction activities. This includes validation of design, support to implementation and testing phases, generation and monitoring of mission/system level specifications. Your tasks will include:

  • support development contracts regarding the above areas, as the activity technical responsible
  • maintain interfaces with the prime contractors
  • participate in progress meetings and reviews, as requested, and provide appropriate feed-back on the achieved progress and results
  • when supporting projects, he/she shall interface with ESA’s project teams, the prime and lower level contractors
  • participate in progress meetings and reviews, as requested by project work, and provide appropriate feedback on the achieved progress and results
  • development and application (incl. educational) of System Engineering tools and models
  • provide support to technical coordination activities

Required Skills and Experience

  • PhD, or Masters in Engineering, or equivalent qualification, in Space Systems Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 4 years of relevant work experience, covering:
  • Expert knowledge of space electronics in particular avionics and communication subsystems through the complete lifecycle including design, development and AIV/qualification.
  • Expert knowledge of S/C system and mission design, incl. system design modelling tools and Concurrent Engineering applied to space mission assessment and design.
  • Knowledge of System of Systems (SoS) architecting and related tools (such as System Architect, Focal Point, etc.) and frameworks (e.g. MODAF, TOGAF).
  • Knowledge and practice in the application of ESA SE Standards (e.g. ECSS-E-10 series) and SW engineering.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of/experience in the practical application of engineering/quality standards would be an asset.
