With the Solenix Satellite tracker a fascinating view on the objects orbiting our earth is available to the public and professionals. Near-real time representation of more than 1000 trackable satellites provides amazing insights of the crowdedness in our skies and might uncover one or another falling star as a satellite.
Cooperation The Satellite Tracker presents man-made satellites in a 2D and 3D world map in near-real time. It is not only a nice tools for space enthusiasts like us, it is useful for education, public relations and for general interest. For example, using the Satellite Tracker you can explain and understand much better the properties and differences of satellite orbits around the Earth, such as polar orbits, geostationary orbits, circular orbits, elliptical orbits. Moreover, you can appreciate the multitude of objects orbiting the Earth (without even talking about Space Debris), as well as the dimensions and distances.
The Satellite Tracker is a Solenix pet project, i.e. it was developed purely for fun. The idea for it was born shortly after Google Earth became available and a very first prototype exists since 2005. Constant software upgrades, performance improvements, design changes etc. lead to the current version of the Satellite Tracker. Since it's a pet project, the effort put into this is restricted by what is left from all our other projects, which does not leave us with a lot. However, we still have lots of ideas for future improvements and if you visit the tracker from time to time, you will find some upgrades.
